New Zealand – UK FTA rejects investor-state dispute settlement in favour of state-to-state mechanism

On 20 October 2021, the governments of the United Kingdom and New Zealand reached an Agreement in Principle on the key elements of a new “high quality, comprehensive and progressive” free trade agreement (FTA). The parties have been negotiating since June 2020 with agreement only being reached after five negotiation rounds.
